Soy candles has been popular nowadays, mainly because it’s an environmental friendly candle. It’s made from vegetable and are non-toxic. That means they’re not only safe for mother earth but also safe for you and your children. This is unlike paraffin candles which releases highly toxic hydrocarbons that are dangerous to inhale. Here’s some of the differences between a paraffin candle and a soy candle.
Soy candles do not produce soot. (they’re made from vegetable, remember?) Paraffin candle releases petroleum soot and toxic hydrocarbons. If you think there’s no harm in all that, or you don’t understand the damage of petroleum soot and toxic hydrocarbons…let me break it down for you in simple terms. There’s studies that shows that burning paraffin candles can cause more damage to you and your children compared to second hand smoking! If this doesn’t freak you out I don’t know what will. After reading all this, there’s no way a mother would allow their children to get near those paraffin candles, no matter how innocent and pretty they may look.
The kicker? There’s a lot of people using highly scented paraffin candles for aromatherapy? You’re inhaling poison to relax? Hardly a beautiful sight to imagine. Another difference between them is that soy candles burns 50% longer and at a lower temperature to boot. I don’t know about you but I hate replacing my candles every 30 to 60 minutes while I’m relaxing or meditating. Plus it doesn’t get too hot when you light up lots of candles.
What if you don’t care if paraffin wax damages your health? Well, do you care about your furniture? Like i said previously, paraffin candle releases a lot of petroluem soot. This soot damages your furniture and even your heating system if you light them up long enough. There’s horror story that homeowners have to fork out $200,000 because of damaged heating and cooling ductwork. Her furniture was also covered with candle soot. Well, just clean them up right? Not so, it’s impossible to clean candle soot from your furniture because the electrically charged bond is too strong to break. You either replace the furniture all together or find a new “cover” for it.
What release candle soot you ask? Well, the more oil is put into a candle wax (paraffin candles has a lot of oils) the more soot it will release. Ironically, the more oil you put the higher scented it will be. Which is a popular feature asked by many these days.

Are you passionate about making soy candles or you just love to light them up? Maybe you’re the type of person that thinks every home that burn candles on a regular basis should be told about the dangers or burning paraffin candles and educated to switch to soy candles. Or maybe you just want a slice of a multi million dollar per year pie. If you answer yes to any of the questions above then a soy candle business might be the right business for you. Who knows, you might become a soy candle mogul since 80% of the homes in the USA burn candles ocassionally.
There are several ways to get into the soy candle business. One of the easiest way is to join a MLM company that sells soy candles. I know, some of you prefer not to have anything to do with MLM. Some might even send me nasty emails for publishing this. But like I said, this is the easiest way to get into the business. (not the ONLY way mind you) Soy candle business is pretty hot right now so you might not have to sell that hard. People might even be coming to you to buy soy candles or to become a distributor. Here’s a tip, sell your soy candles as an effort for fund raising. Just pick your favorite charity and donate a percentage of the profit to it.
The second way to get into the soy candle business is to just buy your own wax, make it yourself and sell it. Before I continue, I would like to touch on an important subject regarding going into the business yourself. The first question you need to ask yourself before you go into the business is “How am i different from all the other soy candle suppliers?”. Normally people will tell me, “oh, I do beautiful soy candles”, or “I use the best ingredient for it”. This is too vague and doesn’t tell me anything.
Here’s an example of how you can differentiate yourself. You can say “The ingredients we use are safe, we don’t use dye because we have found none that meets our quality and safety standard”. Now that’s what I mean by differentiation. You mustn’t be different just to be different. It must give value to the customers like the example just now.
It goes without mention that you need to know how to make soy candles in the first place. There’s a lot of resources on the internet about this so I won’t touch on this. (there’s a blog post just below on this topic too but it’s for beginners only)
The conclusion is, starting a soy candle business is lucrative but you must know which path to take first. There’s pros and cons to both path so think carefully and know what you want.

Previously, I wrote about how soy candles are really good for the environment and your health. i would not use any other candles other than soy candles because of these reasons. With that said, let’s explore how we can make soy candles at home. Yes, you can buy them easily at your local grocery store but I like to make my own candles. It makes me feels independent and strong when I’m doing my meditation or makes me feel secure when I’m relaxing? Why? I guess it’s because I know that the state I’m in right now is influenced by my own effort. (I make my own candles!) Let’s move on to the procedure shall we?
Making soy candles is not hard and almost all of the required items are available at normal homes. (not to say you’re not normal if you don’t have them of course) Let’s go through the shopping list and determine what you have and don’t have. First of all, you will need a pound of soy wax – which you can buy easily. Then you will need a mason jar. A little side note here, mason jar is perfect for making candles because of its heat and crack resistant features, plus it’s beautiful too. You will aso need fragrance oil and dye. (which is optional but highly recommended)
Now after you’ve got all the above item, it’s time to make your soy candle. (which is not hard at all, don’t worry) If your children are doing this, make sure you supervise them closely because this involves some heating up the wax. The first step, as you might already guessed, is putting the heating up the soy wax in a container. A lot of guides will make this a very difficult process by telling you how much temperature to apply and how long you should heat it and etc. i find that complicated and prefer to do it the easy way. Here’s how I do it, apply medium heat and wait until the wax is fully melted. That’s it!
Once the wax is melted you would turn off the heat and put in the fragrance oil and blend them together. Just do this until you feel the fragrance oil is fully absorbed in to the wax. Next you must put in your dye to make your candle colorful. Just follow the instructions on the label for this. Every dye is different so there might be variation to the instructions. Just something you need to be aware of.
After that, pour your wax into your mason jar. Make sure your wick is straight by pulling it with a stick all the time. When you’re done, cut off the excess wick and let it cool for 24 to 48 hours. Here you go, simple isn’t it?

With does feng shui has to do with candles? As it turns out, a lot actually. Before I explain, let me give you some introduction about feng shui and why your luck and energy is affected by it. First of all, what is feng shui? Many people will say that feng shui is not a science and it’s a bogus scam. Well yes and no, there’s a lot of con man out there claiming to be a feng shui master so that made the reputation in this industry bad. But there’s a lot of research that shows some validity to some of feng shui’s practices. I don’t mean it’s proven to improve luck or anything but it actually made a person feels more relaxed and energized. After all, this is what feng shui is all about. Flows of energy which affects the person in that environment.
Now that you’ve got some crash introduction to the world of feng shui, let me show you how your candles can play a huge role in making your place feng shui approved.
And don’t worry, it’s practical stuff. I’m not going to talk about woo woo stuff like attracting a slab of gold into your front door or something. Let’s start with your health. First of all, if you haven’t already, please read my previous posts about the dangers of paraffin wax. You should always use soy candles for your feng shui and other purposes.
Now, about your health. If you constantly feel tired and grumpy then this is for you. Feng shui master believes that if you always feel tired, there might be too much “water” element in your surroundings that “downs” you. Since fire symbolizes passion, energy, and power…it’s natural that the feng shui master recommends that you put soy candles all around your house to counteract the effects of “water”. Now i know this may sound silly but just try it! you’ll be surprised.
Now you can enhance this effect by using red soy candles instead of blue or green. This is because red signifies fame and wealth in feng shui. Even if you don’t believe any of these feng shui stuff. Having a red soy candle on your desk or near you can have a profound effect on your psychology. Why? Because even in the western culture red and fire symbolizes energy and passion. So when you’re feeding your subconcious with images of energy, power and passion…how can you not be energized? See, told you this is going to be practical.

Just a hundred years ago, candles were used widely to see in the dark. Electricity were not available back then so our ancestors have to rely on candles to light up their house. All candles are also plain and has no scent. Don’t sound too romantic doesn’t it? Well, all has changed since we have electricity now. Candles are used primarily as a decoration or to set the mood. How exactly do we do that? There’s three ways to achieve a romantic mood or feeling to the air. We can use color of the soy candle, the scent, and the shape of the candle.
Most of us are aware of using candles to set the environment when eating our dinner. But there’s plenty of place to put your soy candles other than the dinner table! Plus there’s a lot you can do to that candle that you put on your dinner table. First of all, let us explore the three ways to make your candles romantic. On a side note: please use soy candles because they don’t release toxic soot that goes into your food while you’re eating.
1. Color – this is very important because we perceive the world largely through colors. When you’re buying a car or a house, color plays a huge role in your decision making too right? You wouldn’t be caught dead driving a gold color Ford Ranger, would you? That’s why it’s important to choose the right color for the occasion. Red for valentine day, blue to relax after a hard day at work, (you can’t get into the romantic mode when you’re still in working mode) lavender color for anniversary and any color that signifies your relationship with the other half.
2. Scent can play a huge role in invoking romantic images in your significant others mind. Think back the times when both of you had a fun and romantic time together. Think of the place and what it smells like. It is on a garden with plenty of roses or is it on your brand new car with that leather smell? Or you can choose the scent for the occasion. Vanilla rose is perfect for your bedroom.
3. Shape of the candle. A white plain taper candle is not so pleasing and attractive to the eyes. Nor does it invoke any feelings of romance. But a heart shaped candle with her/his name on it will definitely do the work! How about a candle with that are hand carved beautifully?
In conclusion, a white and plain taper candles will not invoke any romantic emotions. Nor will it invoke much or any emotions at all. But a red, heart shapped vanilla rose candle? That would do the trick for sure.
